ASL 2 Intermediate — Teens (Ages 13–18) · 24-Week Course

$15 per class or $360 for all 24 classes

In this 24-week live ASL 2 course, teens build on ASL 1 skills to hold longer conversations, understand signed messages, and express connected ideas with greater clarity. Learners practice follow-up questions, turn-taking, clarification, and conversational repair.

Weekly topics include time sequencing and calendar narratives; describing people and relationships; indexing, pronouns, and spatial referencing; directional verbs; classifiers for people, objects, vehicles, and movement; facial grammar and other nonmanual signals; opinions and reasons; role shifting and storytelling; and Deaf culture and community norms. The course also includes guided conversations about school, community, daily routines, past events, and future plans.

We meet once a week for 30 minutes. Each lesson builds on earlier skills and follows a clear routine: a short review, visual modeling of new signs or grammar, guided practice, and an interactive activity or conversation. I teach with a supportive, visual approach using demonstrations from multiple angles, written vocabulary and slides when helpful, repeated receptive examples, and time to practice before performing.

Learners interact with the instructor throughout class through signed responses, comprehension checks, games, partner or group conversations, scenario practice, and short story retells. I give specific, respectful feedback and can repeat or slow a model when needed. A midcourse check and final expressive and receptive demonstration help learners see their progress.
